Denmark Travel Guide

Let's start with C for CARLSBERG.
The Home of Carlsberg is Carlsberg's original brewery where you step back to 1847 where this iconic brewing legacy began. Learn the history of the brand, the brewing methods, see how it all comes together and visit the gorgeous Carlsberg horses in their stables nearby. The tour includes some cool techy stuff including interactive wristbands that educate while building your thirst - for knowledge! Best of all, this fabulous tour starts and ends with a beer. Maybe we should have opened with that!

AARHUS
Also known as Aros in the Viking age, this ancient Viking stronghold emerged around the 10th century. Be sure to visit The Viking Museum for a sneaky peak into Viking life, which was brutal but fascinating. The Aarhus region has some of the most stunning naturally beautiful landscapes you will find in Denmark and more than 80 different museums.
ROUND TOWER
A distinctive feature on the Copenhagen skyline since 1642, the Round Tower is an elevator free zone - so it's up the spiral staircase you go. The winding, curling white washed Spiral Walk is an experience in itself, with a stunning Library Hall half way up. Continue climbing because the views from the top are worth your effort, especially at sunset. Plus, after all that exercise, what better excuse to call into a cosy nearby bar and enjoy a Carlsberg or two.
LEGO
The 1 day LEGO Fan Tour of the Home of the Brick Billund takes you behind the scenes to see bricks being made and getting a close up on the massive LEGO models. But the ultimate fun here is Mini Chef - bookings are essential for this dining experience with a difference. Mini figures heat up pots, robots serve the food and you build your meal using LEGO bricks. It does get very busy here, so set aside a good day or even more if you're a big LEGO fan.
SAGNLANET LEJRE (aka Lejre Land of Legends)
10,000 years of Danish history is brought to life here in the beautiful history landscape near Roskilde. See houses and settings from the Iron Age, Stone Age, Viking Age and the 19th century as well as historic workshops, animals and interactive experiences. Great for all ages with so much to see and do. The reconstruction of an authentic Viking Hall is impressive and you can dress up like a Viking and fully immerse yourself into the lifestyle - even if it's just for a short time.
BAKKEN
world's oldest amusement park in Klempenborg. The wooden rollercoaster from 1935 is still the best ride in town, with lots of ups and downs. The Cafe can get busy, so think about pre-booking, and the park doesn't open every day, so be sure to check first. All that said, it is super authentic and genuinely retro, think 1950 theme park vibe. You'll find children's amusements, restaurants, pubs and bars for some time out. Bakken is located in the Deer Park and is about a 10-20 minute train ride from Copenhagen Central Station.
EGESKOV CASTLE
This is a Renaissance Castle built in 1554. It's a bit pricy for entrance but you get the castle, the gardens, the play areas, an awesome Classic Car museum and a camping museum as well as Go Karts so lots to see and do. Castle captures all the romantic mystique of castles as we know them with obligatory moat, spires and a heap of Instagram backdrops that will have your friends green with envy! Of course, when we think green, we think Carlsberg!
RUBJERG KNUDE
Take a trip to the North Jutland about 15 ks west of Hjorring. Feel the coastal breeze but be prepared, it's always windy here. It's free to climb the tower where you get a great view looking out over the North Sea. The lighthouse itself was relocated 70 metres inland in October 2019 due to erosion and the imminent danger of it collapsing into the ocean below.
GLYPTOTEKET (aka as Ny Carlsberg Glyptoteket)
This fabulous museum was founded by brewer Carl Jacobsen, who was one of the great industrial magnates of the 19th Century and the greatest art patron in Denmark's history. The museum itself is spectacular, especially if you love sculpture and taking deep dives into different cultures and civilisations, but there is also a gorgeous Winter Garden in the centre and a very nice cafe! When you're done exploring, you can wander through the gorgeous Tivoli Gardens which are right next door in downtown Copenhagen.
So there you have it - we have spelt out a travel itinerary through Carlsberg's native Denmark and you could be forgiven for building up a thirst. So when the clock finally proclaims it's “Beer O’Clock” - one final recommendation for you.
Head to the Copenhagen's Taphouse. This is promoted as a must visit for beer lovers and has more than 61 ever changing beers on tap, the largest selection of tap beers in Europe. Taphouse is in the heart of old town Copenhagen surrounded by charming old buildings and just an 8 minute stroll from the train station.
So raise a glass to a great time in Denmark - probably the best country in the world - and of course, to Carlsberg - probably the best beer in the world.
Skal.
